PressDemocrat: "Sentencing hearing postponed in fatal Cloverdale hit-and-run case"

By PAUL PAYNE

A sentencing hearing for a Cloverdale 17-year-old involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash has been postponed amid a review by the district attorney into the quick handling of the case and a continued police crash investigation.

Mitch Carlson was scheduled to appear in juvenile court Friday to hear his sentence in the Dec. 27 crash that killed pedestrian Miguel Sanchez, 83. He was expected to receive probation and community service, according to the attorney for the Sanchez family.

But the hearing before Judge Raima Ballinger was delayed until Feb. 2. Prosecutors reportedly sought a continuance and the Sanchez family requested no action be taken until more details are known.
